Chevrolet built its 750,000 Corvette, a 1984 C4. The 1984 Corvette's rear window was the largest piece of glass on any production car made in America. 51,547 Corvettes were produced.
Not many changes in 1985, other than a Tuned Port Injection V8 engine. Of the 39,729 Corvettes built in 1985, only 16 had a factory CB radio.
The convertible returned in 1986. All 7,315 of them were "pace car replicas" because they all came with the decals that could be installed by the owner or the dealer. 27,794 Coupes were also built in 1986.
1987 was the first year that the Callaway Twin-turbo option was available for an extra $19,995. A total of 188 were sold. 30,632 Corvettes rolled out of the Bowling Green plant.
Shown here is one of the 2,050 special 35th Anniversary Edition Coupes were sold in 1988. Production numbers were identical to the previous year.
1989 introduced a six-speed manual transmission manufactured by ZF (Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen). 84 Corvette ZR-1 "King of the Hill" cars were built for evaluation, only a small percentage of the 26,412 units built.
GM's highest cost in 1990 was the ZR-1 "King of the Hill". The ZR-1 option package nearly doubled the base price of a Corvette. Another year that mirrored the previous year's production numbers. An interesting aside for 1990 was the ground-breaking of the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
The ZR-1's tail lights become standard on all 1991 Corvettes. The wrap-around parking lights were new on the front-end of the Corvette. Production numbers dropped to 20,639.

A memorable day was July 2, 1992. The One Millionth Corvette rolled out of the Bowling Green plant. Nearly 12 years later, this iconic Corvette would get severely damaged after plummeting into a sinkhole at the National Corvette Museum. A total of 20,479 Corvettes were built in 1992.
This image shows the 1993 40th Anniversary Edition Corvette with Ruby-red metallic paint. The 1993 ZR-1 boasted 405 horsepower. Production saw a small jump to 22,058.
How's this for rare? In 1994, only 116 of the 23,330 Corvettes built were painted Copper Metallic like you see here.
Only 527 of the Dark Purple metallic 1995 Indy Pace model Corvettes were built. 1995 was also the last year for the ZR-1 option. Numbers were down to 20,742 Corvettes built.
1996 was the final year of the C4 edition of the Corvette. The Grand Sport Edition shown here is one of my favorite paint schemes for a Corvette. 21,536 Corvettes closed out the C4s.
